by Lynn Cox

A carton-making factory was evacuated after a fire broke out in machinery in the early hours of today (Wednesday).

Firefighters from Medway fire station were called out to the Nampak Cartons factory in Grosvenor Road, on Gillingham Business Park, at about 4.30am

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: “A small fire broke out in a machine on the factory floor and the building had got a bit smoke filled.

The factory was evacuated as a precaution and it took us about 45 minutes to make sure the flames were out.

“It is not known at this stage how the fire started.”
