Maidstone: Van driver arrested after A229 crash at Royal Engineers' Road with motorbike

A van driver was arrested following a crash which left a motorcyclist with life threatening injuries.

Police were called to the A229 Royal Engineers' Road shortly after 5.30pm yesterday after a serious collision between a grey Fiat Scudo and a blue Suzuki 600 motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, who was in his 20s, was taken to Kings College Hospital in London with injuries to his pelvis that were described as life-threatening.

He is currently in a serious but stable condition.

The van driver – a 45 year-old man from Maidstone - was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, and later released on bail until January, pending further investigation.

Police are now appealing for witnesses.

There was a large amount of traffic in the area at the time and collision investigators are keen to speak to anyone who saw the crash, or either of the two vehicles shortly beforehand.
