Welling United 1 Farnborough 0

WELLING made it two wins out of two over the Easter period after grinding out three points against Farnborough at Park View Road on Monday.

The Wings deserved their victory but were never comfortable against stubborn opposition.

Jamie Day twice went close in the opening 20 minutes before Danny Kedwell's cross was just ahead of Martin Carthy.

The only goal of the game arrived on the half hour mark. Day's cross was only cleared as far as Joe Bruce and his stunning volley came back off the bar for Ellis Green to chest in from close range.

Welling lost Leon Solomon to injury five minutes before half-time but it did little to alter the shape of the game.

Farnborough threatened briefly at the start of the second half with substitute Ty Smith shooting over.

Kedwell nearly netted a second with 20 minutes remaining but keeper Kevin Scriven was at full stretch to turn away his 20-yard shot.

Green then shot wide late on and while Farnborough enjoyed plenty of possession, they failed to test Jamie Turner in the closing stages.

Welling's home match against Cambridge City on Wednesday night is at Stonebridge Road. Kick-off 7.45pm.
