Recent research showed that the average age of a first-time buyer is now in his mid-30s.

But these 22-year-old twins have bucked the national trend and just moved into their first home.

Kelly and Becci Prosser bought their first property at Thames Waterside in Greenhithe through Fairview New Homes.

They were able to take advantage of Fairview's Flying Start incentive, which means they only had to put down a five per cent deposit on their two-bedroom home.

Kelly, a receptionist at a hotel in London, said, "Becci and I have been saving for our own home for three or four years now. Before moving to Thames Waterside we lived with our parents near Swanley but we always wanted our independence.

"We were determined, and now are so proud that we were able to do it all ourselves.

"We had a lot of trouble at first finding anything remotely affordable," continued Kelly.

"The likelihood of being able to put together a 25 per cent deposit in the area was looking slim for us until we came across Fairview and their first-time buyer incentive. Plus they gave us £2,000 towards buying furniture."

Kelly and Becci bought a two double bedroom apartment with a balcony at Thames Waterside for £164,000.

"We absolutely love the development - it's right on the Thames with views across the river, landscaped communal gardens to wander through, contemporary new build design, and all just 10 minutes from Bluewater."

Thames Waterside is a development of one, two and three-bedroom apartments near Dartford. With prices from £159,995. These new homes are well priced for those looking to buy their first home. For details call 0800 883 8193 or go to http://www.fairview.co.uk/
