Father 'devastated' after tractor tragedy

A FAMILY is in mourning after a three-year-old boy was run over by a tractor driven by his father.

The tragic accident happened at a farm on the outskirts of Marden, near Maidstone, on Tuesday, at about 5pm.

Kent Air Ambulance and a land ambulance reached the farm within five minutes of the accident but were unable to revive the toddler, who is believed to have darted unexpectedly in front of the tractor.

Police said the father was devastated by the accident and the family is believed to be getting support by Kent Police family liaison officers.

The boy’s death is not being treated as suspicious. His name has not yet been released to the media.

A police spokesman said: “A three-year-old boy was fatally injured when he was involved in a collision with a tractor being driven by his father. This is being treated as a tragic accident.”

The Rev James Robertson, of St Michael and All Angels Church in Marden, extended his sympathy to the family on behalf of the village.

He said: “I think the whole community is shocked by the news of this terrible accident and our thoughts and prayers are very much with the family at this time.”
