Alan Julian admits the lack of reward from the last two games has been a frustrating experience.

The Gills head into Saturday's home clash with Hartlepool on the back of two straight away defeats but the keeper believes results will turn around in their favour.

“The last two games have probably been the most frustrating of my career so far,” admitted the Ashford-born keeper.

“Against Tranmere I thought in the first half we absolutely battered them. We let in a few sloppy goals in the second half and lost.

“It was the same again (on Tuesday). In the first half again we absolutely battered them and it’s frustrating.

“We have to get three points on Saturday and kick on because what I’ve seen of this division is that there is nothing to be scared of.

“We’re a young side, we are a good side and we have to kick on.”

Julian knows that his place in the side is not guaranteed with last season’s regular keeper Simon Royce waiting anxiously on the sidelines to get his chance to reclaim the number one spot.

He could even lose his place against Hartlepool but while he is selected he’s just trying to savour every moment.

“It was nice to be chosen but not nice to keep playing so well and losing,” he said.

“At this level if you are giving teams chances they are going to take them.

“It’s nice to get the chance and I’m buzzing to be playing and learning and getting experience. I really do feel that the longer I play I’ll learn and get better and improve my game but first things first I just hope I’m picked for Saturday.

“I’ve got the shirt and I have to try and keep it now and it’s the same as everyone in the world, even Peter Cech at Chelsea. If he isn’t doing the business he will be left out.

“I have the shirt at the moment and it’s great but I’ve got to do well to keep it and that’s what I’ll try to do.”
