Ebbsfleet United plan appeal against captain Tom Bonner's red card in Hayes & Yeading draw

Ebbsfleet United have announced they will appeal Tom Bonner’s red card against Hayes & Yeading.

Skipper Bonner was one of four players sent off - two from either side - following a second-half altercation during last weekend’s goalless draw.

Fleet believe video evidence clears their captain and will take their case to the FA in a bid to escape a four-game ban, although they have accepted Anthony Cook’s red.

Manager Daryl McMahon told Fleet’s website: "Tom’s done nothing. We can’t appeal for Cookie as he’s gone head to head with their lad. Neither of them actually did anything beyond that, there was no headbutt, but you won’t get away with doing that.

"But Tom’s only gone in there to defuse the situation, stop a row between Anthony Acheampong and Darren Purse and he’s been grabbed by three or four Hayes players.

"It was four v one, so I’m still none the wiser – especially after seeing the video – how the ref sent Tom off in all that."

Meanwhile, Fleet keeper Brandon Hall has been named in the England C squad for the Challenge Trophy match v Ukraine this month.

It comes a day after his club signed a new goalkeeper.
