Late goals frustrate Folkestone

Folkestone Invicta 2 Newport County 3

FOLKESTONE Invicta again grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory when they lost at home to Newport County despite leading 2-1 going into the last ten minutes.

All the goals came during the final half hour as Invicta were ultimately sunk by a stunning strike from Scott Walker after 85 minutes.

Both Invicta's last home Premier Division win (back on March 23) and away win (on August 31) had come against Newport and the omens were looking good as Invicta twice took the lead courtesy of James Millar and James Dryden.

But Jeff Eckhardt brought Newport level at 2-2 after 82 minutes and Walker's rocket left Invicta stunned as they have now gone four calendar months without a league win.

Invicta had dominated the first half when Newport's goal had led a charmed life as the visitors had goalkeeper Pat Mountain to thank for keeping them in the game.

But Newport hit back strongly after the interval as the goals kept coming.

Invicta opened the scoring after 63 minutes when Millar let fly from outside the penalty area and his shot came back off the crossbar and in off goalkeeper Mountain.

But Newport were level after 71 minutes when Ryan Ashington slotted home when Garry Shephard played the ball into his path.

Dryden restored Invicta's lead after 74 minutes when he belted the ball into the top corner of the net after John Ayling had shown great vision to put him through.

It was not to be enough though as Eckhardt made it 2-2 after Maurice Munden had twice saved from Shephard when Matthew Rose played the ball in after Millar's stray pass in midfield had put Invicta into trouble.

Walker hit his sensational winner three minutes later with a goal worthy of winning any game as he let fly from the left hand edge of the box when French substitute Julien Luntala and Ashington worked the ball across to him from the right.
