Folkestone Invicta joint-head coach Roland Edge praises his side's defence after 2-0 Isthmian Premier victory at Wingate & Finchley

Roland Edge has poured praise on Folkestone’s defence.

Invicta earned a 2-0 victory at Wingate & Finchley last Saturday through a penalty by top scorer Ade Yusuff and a strike by fellow frontman Ira Jackson.

They’re now on a three-game Isthmian Premier winning run, in which they have conceded just once, after recent changes in their goalkeeper department.

“It was really good to be honest,” said Folkestone joint-head coach Edge.

“The defence is getting better and better with every game.

"Nathan Green and Ian Gayle were new faces at the beginning of the season but they’ve blended really well with Callum Davies, Matt Newman and JV [Josh Vincent].

“We have a new keeper [Pat Ohman] as well.

"He didn’t have a lot to do on Saturday but he did what he needed to well. It’s quite pleasing.”

The win at Wingate came after derby successes over the festive period against Margate and Herne Bay.

Edge said: “Every manager likes to have a nice Christmas.

“You can view it as the start of something new. I felt our performances were getting better, anyway.

“I think the cohesion of the side is getting better and that’s showing in our performances.”

Yusuff converted a spot-kick to put the visitors ahead at Wingate and is on 24 goals this season.

“It’s outstanding,” noted Edge on Yusuff’s record in front of goal this term.

“He is getting all kinds of goals and assists as well. I think it’s quite common knowledge that he’s one of - if not - the best in the division.

“But it’s not just him.

"With him, Ira and Ibs [Ibrahim Olutade], all three of them are a threat.”

For Jackson, meanwhile, it was just a fifth goal of the campaign after the former Grimsby man rejoined on the eve of the season having earned a Football League move following a successful first spell at Cheriton Road.

Edge said: “His strike on Saturday was exceptional.

"It was similar to the goals he scored the first time he was here.”

Invicta now have back-to-back home encounters to look ahead to after Tuesday's Isthmian Premier trip to Hastings was postponed after a pitch inspection.

They host Billericay this Saturday and Enfield on Tuesday.

Forward Shola Ayoola has left the club in search of more game time. He joined in November but made just six appearances, including four starts.
